I guess it may become standard for a seller to have a recent battery state of health report available

Surprised there isn't one there already tbh. Or maybe like I say there's only so much damage it's possible to do to a battery from real world use and it isn't a big issue.

I believe manufacturer has included sensible charging management into software for my battery. So 7kW 0-100% I think is fine. I haven't read any manufacturer instructions that say else, have you? Just 3rd party drivel on you tube? G

When plugging in to a fast charger they always slow down dramatically for the last bit of the charge anyway.

Indeed jda. For public charging I sometimes stop at 80% fir that reason too. But even at home at 7kW it slows down for last 20 mins. And I'm often charging on solar at 2.5kW - 5kW. I also think the "usable" bit of battery is already limited to 90%.
Any hoo, basically I don't see it being any different to know of a car has been "thrashed" driven by a boy racer. Or has done fleet miles at 90mph vs urban miles at 20mph for an ICE. If you buy 2nd hand from a dealer you've got their guarantee and if iou buy privately then caveat emptor.
This will be me in 10 months btw! G

That's partly the issue, different manufacturer's handbooks say different things (some do make explicit reference to charging mostly to 80%) whereas others are silent or give different suggestions. Plus there are different battery technologies out there (e.g. the long range MG4 has a different chemistry than the base model).
My approach is definitely to let the battery software do it's thing and not worry about it.

Made it back from Scotland ok, it was a bit touch and go as we only charged at Stirling (huge solar-powered park and ride site) where we got back up to 85% which I’d worked out should be enough if the calibration was decent. On the motorway down the estimated miles of range was going down quite a bit quicker than miles to home but they never quite met and we were fine once back on slower roads, getting home with a whopping 5% left on the meter.
Including the full battery we started out with, we averaged about 29p per unit (Scotland is cheap compared to England!) and covered something over 700 miles. Smart cruise control was great on the motorway.
Incidentally I’ve been surprised to find that hills don’t really seem to hurt the range too much. The regen means you get a bit back on the downs and the lower speed is an important factor.

Going up and over the M62 I really notice that - panic sets in as you rise up from Halifax, and then sanity is restored by the time you're back down to the M66 junction.
Elevation does make a noticeable difference daily for me. The commute is always about 0.2 miles per kwh more efficient than the home journey which I put down to my work being about 25m above sea level vs home which is about 75m. I suppose it could be other factors like the prevailing wind direction or any preconditioning I do to the car's heating system but I follow an identical route there and back and consistently get the same outcome.
Final day with the pug, MG tomorrow. Fingers crossed I don't get a dud!

MG4s were in the local shopping mall at weekend. I still think they look smaller than my Hyundai Kona. But I know larks you have assured me that the MG4 is bigger in the back! As it's my likely second hand in 11 months time, I will be reading your review of MG4 carefully!
Nice travel report jda. G

Fortunately there was Hyundai and MG garage right next door to one another so it was easy for our boys to do the back seat test!
The online forum does suggest that some of the electronics are "quirky", but tbh I quite like that sort of thing; most common complaints seem to be that the "lane keeping assist" is pretty aggressive and a few reports of the car's detection collision system slamming on the brakes unexpectedly.
Suspect the comfort / ease of use will not be as good as the peugeot, but space trumps most things for us.
