Did my last long run yesterday and it was a blast. Did the beginning of the marathon route as the second half of my long run. Was quite nice to practice feeling a bit puggled at the end - finished off with lunch at Luca's. Now that's a great start to my taper !

a couple of friends received their numbers for the half marathon yesterday so maybe they have sent out the numbers for the shorter races first and we will get ours tomorrow?

Hi all, any seasoned Edinburgh marathon runners on here? Looking for a bit of advice. Where are good points to watch? Got my family coming up and given it goes out to the middle of nowhere, wondering where they can watch and good options for moving between sightings.

Also, it says on the marathon info that the bus back takes 40-50 minutes - is that right? Really can't face that length of journey afterwards!! What is the train like? I see they are only every hour so does anyone know if they are likely to be packed? Same question for the other direction if my family decide to come out and me.

Good to hear everyone is tapering - did a 13m MP run today and felt good. Roll on 26th!

Yossarian do post a pic! Barryparker, I can't help as it's my first time, im sure someone will be along soon. Stoosh, you still seem to be running alot of miles for a taper. Some of my long runs have been horrid and some quite reasonable.

Is Fetchpoint happening this year? (barryparker, it's usually in Prestonpans at miles 12/24 and is just a walk down the hill from the train station) I'll be up with the family visiting my parents so probably won't make it along, but if any Fetchies hear a shout from above their heads on Cockenzie High Street that will probably have been me.

sarabop - i'm only doing a 2week taper this time although i've always done 3 in the past. Not sure why i decided to change it this time but interested to see how fresh i'll be come the 26th..
Can't really help much on the places to watch but i can say i've never bought a shuttle bus ticket. Probably because i always end up in a pub in musselburgh then just get a normal bus back into the centre, can't remember it taking any longer than 25mins though!!

My work canteen have just served up Gosford Chicken Broth, so that suggests the route around Gosford may not have loose chickens this year !

BarryParker - easiest watching point is around musselburgh itself....you go past the racecourse around 10 miles and then it finishes across the road from there. Your family are then there at the end to meet you but have time to kill in between but could get a coffee or something. If they have transport they could go to Prestonpans which is mile 12/23ish, but they would have to come back and meet you so not an option if no means of getting there and back.

It would be tough using public transport to see any more, other than maybe seeing you near the start (meadowbank) and then jumping on a bus to musselburgh, but unless lucky you would get these before they do on the way out.

Ive never used the buses either but there has been talk of a long walk, waits for the buses to get going and then traffic congestion. I have certainly seen the traffic congestion. Never used trains so not sure
