Only newt here comprised new recipes for supper: a Hairy Dieters cod and prawn 'stew' which the others said tasted good but my cold meant I couldn't really tell, and a pudding I invented. I had some filo pastry left over from earlier in the week so I cut it into squares, lined a Yorkshire pudding tin (4 'holes') with the squares, baked that, then filled the resulting cases with a mix of 0% Total and Co-op chilled custard (OH would have turned up his nose at just yoghurt) and strawberries. That was also pronounced a success.

Love Alice's Spanish vet visit.
And LD has reminded me that I of my unplanned newt.
Raffo was down at the fishing huts/ fleet on the beach today taking photos for his cards and ca,e back with four just landed plaice. 'FOUR!' I squeaked. 'Well they were two for a pound.' he said (He's such a soft touch and had been talking to the fisherman.)
They weren't small but I usually find plaice/sole etc a bit unsatisfactory so I don't buy them.
ANYWAY half an hour later Raffo was regretting buying them because what he really wanted was mackerel...
THIS IS TURNING INTO A BLOG!
EDITED version - I cooked them with capers, olives, lemons, onions, toms and sweet red peppers and a load of fresh flat parsley from the market. It was a bit of an invention so is my newt for today.
Everything but the place itself (just one each) was delicious but the fish was - we both agree - disappointing.

Recipe sounds great, but I'm also not a big fan of plaice.

The only thing I can say for plaice us that it's better than skate.

I don't think I've eaten skate, but not going to make it a newt

My MiL used to cook us skate occasionally 'as a treat'. She was obviously a fan so it would have been bad manners to complain :-(. I didn't find it very flavoursome and I found all the gelatinous bones a bind.

Raffo and I both prefer stronger tasting fish - or at least meatier like bass, gurnard or bream. Flat fish are ok fried I guess ... but they're a bit nothingish I agree.
I had skate for the first time in coastal France many years ago .... it was
