It is a good point Sharkie, but I did an ultra (50k) in 2019, it became too much of a hassle to take my back pack off and I really struggled as I stopped eating and taking on anything other than water.
Someone said backpack for the stuff you have to carry and a waist pack for keeping snacks close to hand so you don't have too take bag off. I am doing a 100k this year so thought if it helps me fuelling and having somewhere to put empty packets then it may be worth it. I did buy a new race vest which has more pockets so maybe not needed, but in other longer runs I can carry said snacks without the race pack

My daughter was a serious figure skater in her teens and skorts were all the rage for training sessions for a while, bit more modest/practical than full on skater dress and an alternative to leggings to still get the floaty effect on spins. They never had pockets though, that’s what the barrier was for to stack all your tissues, water bottles, skate guards and other assorted paraphernalia! As a parent you got used to catching a snotty tissue flung at you mid-session! And no, as a bloke I’ve never felt the need to wear one, running or skating!

Obvs I understand about ultras and marathons but anything under 10k? I don't think you need anything except key and hankie. I DID used to be a distance runner so this is not just present day sprinter me talking. Who needs the extra weight anyway!

Oh how interesting bja - did she stop once she was out of her teens?

I only intend wearing it for the actual race and the long training runs, otherwise I run with a phone a key and tissue (and all advice on ultra running greatly received)
Under 10k I don't even have water (unless its hot I rarely take water at all) but I'm trying to learn to take stuff to get used to eating and drinking on a run

Not that I ever run any more (maybe I should make that a Newt?) but when I walk the dog I need my phone, cos I am a Millennial and am irredeemably attached to it.
Anyway, don’t you need somewhere to keep your lippy?

Yes, there was no club nearby when she was at uni and she now works shifts that don’t work with regular training sessions. Rinks have been closed for the last year anyway. I think she misses the fitness it gave her, if not the competition (like gymnasts, unless you are brilliant skaters tend to peak at about 16. R made the British Championships and was delighted to finish not last, but was never going to trouble the leaderboard). She does miss coaching beginners though!

I don’t miss the politics of skating club committees though after 10 years of doing every job going!

Walking is not running. It is not even run-walking. And DOG walking is an entirely different ball game, occasionally involving balls. Always involving poo bags and emergency treats.
(lippy is in track bag along with nail scissors, nail files, small mirror, plasters, notebook, pen, phone, spare socks, SPF15, insect stuff, tape measure, cones, towel, thing to put earrings in if I do shot put......

That's really fab bja - does sound like gymnastics - and athletics come to that. And serious dance of course although I note you said figure skating.
