Have fitted some mudguards to the bike, and nothing has fallen off yet, so feeling a little smug.

Plan to take it for a short shakedown run tomorrow.

Afternoon, need to get my arse in gear and put an inner tube in a wheel.

88mm deep section clincher. What inner tube would you buy. I have valve extenders. Do you then electrical tape the thread?

I’ve watched YouTube videos but guess I’m looking for some reassurance!

I have similar wheels (Mavic Cosmic Pro) and I got some nice ones from Merlin Cycles that had no thread, didn't need to tape them. No punctures yet ......

In my ongoing war against flats, I've recently put these in:

They're supposed to be extremely puncture resistant, and come with a one year warranty against flats.

A wee bit more fiddly to install that traditional butyl, but they do feel a bit more robust than butyl, so I'll see how they go.
I've done about 50 miles on them so far, and first impressions are good.

Have any of you done an Audax? Thoughts? I like the concept although events are sparse near me.

Yes I have but not recently, although my usual rides could be termed audax-spirited.
What would you like to know, what's your aim?

I haven't ridden one, but know a few who've organised them (we're possibly relaunching one this year as a club).

They seem pretty relaxed, largely self-supported, self navigated rides of from about 100km up to about 1200km for London-Edinburgh-London (or even longer for similar events in Europe). There'll often be cooperative groups, and both min and max speeds to cover the course. Other than that, I'm not sure there is much to them.

I guess the main thing is to understand they are different from a sportive. The vibe is generally more laid back, there's more cake and more Carradice bags ;-)
The FB group is probably more active than the official forum (that's members only) facebook.com
For some there are serious points chasing and series bagging (climbing points and sets of distances ridden, or ridden within a year such as riding a 200km every month). It's a bit like the challenges on here really. Oh and you can buy nice badges and patches of your achievements

:-P
The Friday Night rides have a similar vibe but they're not audaxes.

If there’s a thread for this already, I haven’t seen it :-) But I thought it’d be good to have...
