Snicko seems a lot more reliable. Hasn't been used so far 'cos of time taken to process the data, but this is now getting down to 5 seconds. Drop hotspot - unreliable in this context and horrendously expensive, and use snicko instead. |

slight problem with snicko is that hears a noise - a noise that could come from the players necklace banging against his face gaurd at the same time as the ball passes the bat

Can high-speed cameras capture the spin imparted on the ball as it hits an edge?

What an excellent reason for banning chains, and in fact all jewellery, from the sport. All sports!

Agree not conclusive, but it appears to be more reliable than hotspot. We're never going to have a foolproof system - so what can we provide that is more reliable than what we currently have, even if not perfect. Surprised and disappointed re Monty:( |

I think one of the things that gets forgotten is that batsmen trying to fool Hotspot may be self-defeating; what if your silicone tape prevents Hotspot from showing that thin inside edge before the ball hits your pads when you're bang in front? I think that it's a pointless argument to say that Hotspot should be scrapped because it doesn't work 100% of the time; it's just one more tool to improve the overall accuracy of decisions. Sometimes it reveals things that weren't obvious to the naked eye. It would certainly be good to have Snicko in addition, though. I always thought Monty didn't handle bouncers very well... |

Dunno if anyone heard, but the ICC were running a test at the lest test - as well as the third umpire there as a fourth one in a different room with Sky technicians seeing if he, the fourth umpire, could get to decision quicker using that approach - i.e. pure TV wizardry. No mention of how far away a full test or implementation was. But could be better than what we currently have. |
