Ned a pitch that allows Anderson and Broad to get some swing ... the slow pitch played into the Aussies hands - 800 runs and still able to bowl us out twice. Balance will have to be dropped his his set in cement and no chance of moving forward and any ball short or outside off stump he struggles with. Lyth has one decent score but what other opening option is there ?? Personally I'd drop Balance and bring in Bairstow if a straight batting option. Alternatively drop Balance move Ali up the order and Rashid comes in at 8 as a spinner.

Starc and Hazlewoo, and to some extent Johnson can swing it too, so I don't think it would help. Maybe, but the toss would be important, and they have a better spinner than us.
Openers thin on the ground, what happens when Cook retires, which he will do soon.
Bairstow, yes, probably will get a go soon.

Seriously, I think he will, win or lose, I think he's done all he wants to in the game....been captain a while now, and ex-captains don't hang about long.
I have the feeling they will stick with Bell, if they drop him, and someone new comes in and fails, they have nowhere to go, so Balance can go and get himself sorted and come back. Lyth I think they need to stick with, but he needs a score.
Anderson looked unlucky, Broad is our best bowler, Wood has to stay as he is the future.
So maybe Balance will be the only change.

Glad I missed the worst of that debacle, being preoccupied with Ironman racing. I heard that Bayliss was unhappy that Cook was spoutig on to anyone after the first test about how hard Australia were going to hit us.
He felt that was the wrong attitude, breeding passivity and negativity.
Top order is now a disgrace, as it was against WI and NZ. None of Bell, Ballance and Lyth are worth a place, but you can't cull all 3 and Bairstow aside who else is kicking the door down?
