So, how long before people start moaning about us not declaring soon enough, negative captaincy etc. ?

that was a great day. I have a few mates down there and one of them had never been to a test match before. He can't possibly imagine what it was like 30 yeas ago when I first went...
I didn't listen until just before lunch, and then for about 3 hours. I seriosuly though at 21-2 they could cock it up, but no, the thrashed 'em and kept doing it.ok Lyth, Buttler, maybe Moeen, could have picked better shots, but they are going for it.
It is actually amazing.

Regardless of the outcome, have Ballance and Bell done enough to be selected for the next test?
I'm so happy England are playing with freedom and flair. Even Cook's captaincy appears free of burden and he's been making some good decisions out in the field. Let's hope it continues in the fourth innings.

Agree with wriggler. I'm loving the way this team are playing. Bell and Lyth could have gone into their shells today for a bit of block and survive, both are under immense pressure but they had a go, and cganged the feel of the innings.
I say keep the same XI. The players have clearly been freed up to play shots, that comes with some risk but as they have done that they deserve another test or two.

Having said that, still feel there's some squeaky bum time coming before this test is over....

I'm absolutely certain we'll win. I was right about Edgbaston 2005 and I'm right now
Interesting to note Starc is nursing an ankle and is at least doubtful for the second Test.

Prediction time: Australia 273 all out.
I'm amazed that this has been a result pitch. I'm still not sure it's a good surface for Test cricket, nor am I convinced that the Swalec is a Test venue, but hey ho. Seriously, ECB, lets go back to Lords/Oval/Edgbaston/Old Trafford/Headingley and Trent Bridge.

I think it's the attitude, the likes of boycs would have england at 220-4 at the end of day 1, they just get on with it now. I actually think England have been moving this way for quite a while.Look at how Prior has batted and KP and Tresco etc, it's just not come lately, and they had an awful tour to Australia last time.
I'm still happy with my bet for a drawn series, you're not telling me Johnson, Starc (maybe), Clarke, Smith etc won't win a game for them during the whole series.
Also, they have time to get the runs over the next 2 days, Ijust don't think they'll have the patience. I reckon Boycs had it right last night. England will be semi-defensive in bowling and strangle the gameout of them. I can see Aus getting 300+.
