I remember the fingers being very stiff - I could never get them to mould to my hands. And a box is the first bit of kit any bloke should invest in. I heard a horror story on the sidelines once, of a player who batted with a cracked box. The ball hit it straight on, bending the plastic which opened up the crack momentarily. I can't recall that story without wanting to cross my legs.

um 24 Jan 11:45am, 24 Jan 2025 9,254 posts	0 um Yep, back in my cricket playing days, (70s and 80s, uni, a few club 'guest' appearances and a works team) a box was the only bit of kit I had, the rest was all communal carried about in a massive kit bag. Far preferred wicket keeping, but also known to bat a bit (very impatiently, I wasn't a Boycott/Tavaré) and had a surprisingly slow but deadly lofted spin off a 2 step 'run' when wanted.
