Last weekend, Eastwood CC held their first ever beer festival, "Bails and Ales". Beginning at 6pm Friday, there was an open session for all juniors. Saturday the men's Second XI gained promotion with a victory over Thrumpton. On Sunday the club hosted 4 women's clubs in a Hundred tournament, 2 semi finals and final. The standard looked great, but it was very chilly, so mostly watched from inside. Yesterday, the weekend was rounded off with a women's softball festival. 8 teams, playing 12 matches on 2 pitches. Special mention to Spondon CC, it was their first ever games, they are so new, they haven't even organised kit yet. Women's cricket locally is booming. For any ale lovers out there, Dog & Parrot organised the beers. Thornbridge Jaipur was a personal favourite, then Blue Monkey Marmoset when the Jaipur ran out. |

Were the juniors being schooled in cricket or beer? Or both. I know I learned about the two at the cricket club when licensing laws may have been less strictly observed. |

LOL there may have been the odd teenager sneaking a beer, but the juniors were strictly cricket. They had a visit from a Minion, Spiderman and Tony The Tiger. The mascot race was hilarious, I think Spiderman had been at the ale, because he came last, despite not being in a big costume. |

So about 48 deliveries faced. But that was as a number 11. There may be similar context to this story but an opener!? Quite either ridiculous or an achievement. |

Trent Bridge has gone to a ballot for internationals next year, that’s my cricket watching severely curtailed. I got nothing in either of the Lords and Oval ballots this year.
