In fairness, WI seem to be playing Bazball too. They were 115-5 too before a century partnership and their scoring rate at that point was 4.0 an over vs England currently at 4.8.

Very good day for England today, really enjoyed being there. How both Root and Smith missed out on a century is beyond me.

Don't see many hitting the ball into the river Rea. Smith is obviously capable of hitting a huge ball... but he shouldn't have tried the 'going to his hundred with a six' trick, especially to a slower ball which kept low.

Get 'em in singles, son.

Cracking day for Woakes, too.

Iam not so sure it's in their heads getting singles or 4s or 6s. If they think they see it, they hit it.

I think there's also an element from all the batters (except Root perhaps) that they want to 'dominate' the opposition bowlers. And hence quite often they play stupid shots and get out for low scores.

We've effectively got quite a few Kevin Pietersen's in the team these days.

And what they gamble on is that 2-3 of them come off and they score a biggish score, but not necessarily a match winning one, but the *rate* at which they score is to put pressure on the opposition.

I think it works well against the weaker test sides. Against India and Australia and sometimes away from home against the mid-ranked teams, they will struggle.

Bloody hell. Saw WI were 115-5, went for a bit of sunbathing in the garden and thought I'll catch up with it later... And it is all over with Stokes battering a super quick 50.
