Under one of the stands at Lord's it's fairly narrow, so when it's crowded at lunchtime on test match days they put barriers down the middle and have stewards telling people to keep on the left of the barriers to ease the flow. Once when I was there I noticed this old guy who decided he wasn't going to keep left just because some MCC steward told him to and proceeded to walk on the right against the flow - so yes, I have come across Geoff Boycott! |

I was called into David East's office once when he was CEO at Essex. Lovely space, big picture window overlooking the pitch. I'd gone round to admin to whine about the lack of bicycle parking at the County Ground, and someone suggested I should go and tell Mr East since he was in and looking to meet the regular members. Don't think the encounter lasted more than 45 seconds, but it was a bit of a thrill all the same |

I spent a fair amount of the summer of 1980 hanging around The Oval with my friend Jonathan who was a big cricket fan. I know it was 1980 as one of the autographs I got was that of Hugh Gore who played one season with Somerset. Other obscure cricketers I met included Giles Cheatle, a spinner who joined Surrey from Sussex, father of Australian cricketer Lauren Cheatle. I did also get to meet and chat with some more well-known players like Roger Knight, Alan Butcher, Pat Pocock, Monte Lynch and Grahame Clinton |

We hosted Lashings XI a few years ago and I scored for the match alongside Henry Blofeld doing the commentary. Officially I was the 2nd XI scorer and obviously this was our 1st XI, so I spent half the afternoon feeling a total numpty as I couldn't give him the details of a new bowler's action as I'd never seen them before.

Nice to see SPR taking an interest in the goings on at Fortress Chelmsford, too
