Boycott stopped playing in 1986 (and averaged over 50 for Yorkshire that season), so I guess you'd need to be early forties to have had a chance of having seen him play.

Don't know whether Serendippily was there, but one of the pre-game interviewees at Tottenham last season was a chap in his 90s who'd been a season ticket holder since just after WW2. Inspiring stuff.

I've been a member at Essex, with breaks when I was living overseas or away in the UK, since the late 1970s. Finally found enough ready cash to convert to life membership when I turned 50 (2013).

Forecast doesn't look too bad. We might lose most or all of the morning, but the rest of the day looks ok.

Could be disrupted right through the day by on the one I'm looking at...

I watched my first County Championship match in 1973. Derbyshire v Notts at Ilson.

Gary Sobers scored a 100*

* The day before we went, I got to see Derbyshire bat (or as I remember it, see Derek Randall field)

It absolutely chucked it down here in Essex for a couple of hours last night. All dried up now, at least in my garden - so hoping for an on-time start and, as previously stated, for Kent to survive the morning session.

What were you, nico? Six? I forget how many years younger than me you are but I'm guessing it was around that age?

I was nearly 8. My old man took me and my two brothers. One non cricketing thing I remember about the day, we went to a restaurant for lunch. My kid brother was so hungry, he started eating his dinner before the waiter had put his plate down.
