We lost %-) because we were pants......we hardly scored a run, Harmison was on his way out, Anderson had not really got going, and 4 of 5 aussies were on their last hurrah!!!! en.wikipedia.org look at the runs scored and the numbers of wicket and who got them McGrath, Warne, Clarke, Ponting, Hussey Hayden... |

That England team was on it's last hurrah too. Flintoff never hit the same heights, Harmy was going downhill, Simon Jones never played again for England, Vaughan's knee gave out, Trescothick didn't make it through the following winter without succumbing to his issues, Giles would be replaced by Monty soon after, Geraint Jones completely forgot how to catch. Only Bell, Strauss and KP had significantly successful careers after that series. The Aussies held on to their form far better. |

Teaboy, yes KP was good that summer, but since then, before his exile, the number of times his ego and lack of discpline got him out for next to nothing more than outweighed the, increasingly rare, big knock. He had an incredible natural talent, but unfortunately IMO he didn't have the mental discipline to develop it to its max or to function in a team environment. Real loss to test cricket. If we can find an aggressive and accurate quickie I don't think we are too far off a decent test side. Just whatever they do please don;t bring back Bopara, Jordan, Tremlett, etc. They've been tried numerous times, and failed numerous times. It's time to build the bowling up the way they've almost done the batting (Ali, Root, Butler, Taylor, ginger bloke,...) |

Talk of KP reminds me of how in the Friends Provident Trophy Final of 2007, he was made to look vert ordinary by Ottis Gibson (36 year old former West Indian quickie) and with all respect to him, a County trundler by the name of Neil Kileen. Durham's first piece of silverware & we've now won 3 County Championships & 2 One-Day Titles in the 7 years since. |

nyway. Aus predictably bludgeon an actually quite spirited Afghan performance. Whatt odds England make it look much more difficult?

KP's test average of 47.xx over 100 tests is up with the very best. He may have been a c&ck in the dressing room, but so were others (Boycs etc). He was a game changer with the bat, trouble is he fell foul of the classic English cricket disease: look at what he can't do, not what he can. Good old steady eddie Country grafter can play lots of 'correct' cricket shots, score 70 at a shade under 3 an over and he's done ok - good knock, nice half century well done. KP can score a brilliant 70 full of improvised shots at 4 and a half an over that get the bowling attack on the back foot and get out for 70 playing a reverse sweep and he's a selfish c&*t not making the best use of his talent and throwing his wicket away before making 150. Steady Eddie retiring with an average of 47 after 100 tests is an all time great. Kevin Pietersen is slagged off. No idea what he was like in the dressing room: probably was a bit of a cock, but I suspect a good strong Captain and coach could have managed it better. As much as the bad stories have emerged, other (less publicised) stories emerged that we has very good with the younger players, far more so than the other 'established' players in their little clique. Maverick, outsider, talented: whether its Football, Cricket or Rugby we just cannot deal with them and go for the steady eddie Good bloke who 'never lets you down' every time. That's why we are so dull, and why so often when we reach the business end of things we lack the game changers that get us over the line. It's a sorry tale, and too late to rectify now, but let's hope the next talent we are lucky enough to stumble across is managed better. At least Kevin Pietersen burned brightly for a while. |

Michael Vaughan, our best captain since Brearley, had no issues managing KP. I bet Beefy was a pain too. Brearley handled him just fine. |

Talking of 'comebacks' Jonathan Trott - yes or no?
