But people will watch it - they watch an inferior product (to Tests) in County cricket often enough

Not many will. Test match crowds already dwindling outside of England. Gabba on the first day of the Ashes test wasn't full and the Saturday was almost empty. Many countries rely on England fans to make up the numbers.

I see Archer had broken down again. A once in a generation fast bowling talent destroyed in half a dozen tests by Joe Root’s deployment of him to hold an end up for 27 overs a day.
Only two outcomes now - end of career (maybe join Steven Finn in the commentary box and they can compare notes on how we wasted their talent), or a return as…..yet another line and length trundler.

It rather felt Archer was thrown into red ball cricket without considering the stress it place upon his body

Test cricket and Championship cricket and Sheffield Shield and all those other red ball games are terminally ill and will be dead in Nico's grandchildren's day. We just don't like to admit it.

Unfortunately I think you're right Greg - today's world doesn't have the time or patience for extended games - it's all about instant gratification

At least cricket is being killed by cricket. Baseball is being killed by basketball, improbably.

I find it quite sad as I really have little interest in the short form of the game and rarely watch it. I much prefer the test matches and love nothing more than a day of watching overseas tests in the depths of winter.
