The England team played 50 days in the regular county season last year. Given that The Hundred and the T20 Blast are also ringfenced because of their financial importance, when are you geniuses going to put on your Franchises-Of-All-The-Talents red ball competition featuring all the England squad players then?

I think the majority have decided that the squad isn't up to much - so maybe it's more about finding the best replacements

Nico's going to have a fit about me confusing cricket with baseball again - but my solution would be to monumentally reduce the role of the national side - 50 days (yes I counted them) is silly - and the ODIs and T20s are so numerous as to have no meaning. Surely 31 (5x5, 2x3) is a more reasonable number?

50 days?
Firstly, make the Test team and the white ball team 2 separate entities. The Test team plays 6 or 7 home Test a summer. Out side of that, the contracted players are required to play in the franchise matches to find form.
Any Test players wanting to play white ball have to choose. Write them off.
3 Tests in June/July. 3/4 tests in August/September
Red ball franchise games in May/June.
Play the Hundred in a shortened block at the end of July and early August to co-incide with school holidays.
T20 Blast dies on it's arse.
Something like that?

Why can't we just accept that white ball, limited overs cricket is a different game. Like rugby 7's. Separate teams, separate tournaments. Players have to choose.
If you want quick matches, lots of them, fast paced with less subtlety, watch 7's.
If you're a purist, watch the full 15 a side game.

Suspect you're not going to get many who voluntarily opt out of white ball and the chance to play IPL. Malan, Bairstow, Buttler, Woakes, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Liam Livingstone, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes - that's a pretty decent squad of players to choose not to pick.

Agreed its a decent ODI/T20 squad, but that's the point. leave them to play the hit and giggle while developing a squad to concentrate on red ball.

Then we have the 'multiple versions of white ball' wankfuckery on top of that. Separate ODI and T20 squads?
England - or 'England' playing an ODI and a test match simultaneously? What are they, the fucking Sugar Babes?
