I've been making the most absurdly pessimistic predictions for a bit of fun, and the England team's been making me look like Nostradamus. If they get through the day it'll be because the Aussies don't enforce the follow-on. Maybe make it a 2 or 3 test series next time eh lads? Leave the long stuff to the grown-ups.

Is there a worse position in any sport, when you are out of your depth? Left back in football you have a shocker one week against a pacy winger. Next week the threats over the other side or you have an opponent more suited to your skill set and you can recover and look moderately competent. Opening test bat, you have some glaring technical deficiencies against pace you get found out time and time again. They have the footage, the scenario never changes, you face the new ball, you face the pace.you get out. I’m not absolving this shambles at all. But I sympathise. Also I don’t think this is lack of heart, guts, courage etc etc. 4 of the bats just aren’t of the required standard.
