Remember, this is the result of 2 years' careful planning!

Understand what you mean about a white ball player, Nico, but remember when we took a punt on a couple of likely young lads, Trescothick and Vaughan. It was based on something other than their red ball record. Needs a bit of that. Livingstone clearly has a big match temperament.

Southgate lucked out being the first manager to have the benefit of a real grass roots and academy coaching revolution that had just really begun to bear fruit.

The equivalent cricket coaching revolution is not yet at the ‘chaps I think we need to look at how we coach young players’ stage yet…..

Curran S is indeed a competitor. Appears young Bess is too. Given that they don't - clearly don't - rate some of these (Leach and others), a different method is required.

The thing is, quirky techniques don't work. Quirky mannerisms is different. You have to be still and you have to play the line of the ball as late as you can - 'under your eyes' as Cook described it.

TRO, you are right to a degree, but he also had a clear plan and had done analysis of how international games are won. Set pieces are disproportionately effective and affecting in the international game for example. Probably due to the (lack of) time that can be spent on defending them in training.

57.5 Days of Xmas
I reckon Scotland could pull together a squad that would perform as well as England down under
Could we find enough 'Scottish' South Africans to outplay Australia's Saffer contingent. Who are clearly better than England's.

57.5, I reckon you and I would be in with a shout of selection. My run of scores for Penicuik 3rd XI would be a match for Rory Burns

Great comment on the BBC sport page:

"I can understand why Burns uses all that sun block on his face whilst England are fielding, he's out in the sun a long time. But what does he bother with it when he goes out to bat?"

Aggers was trying to get him out of jail, trouble is his bat comes down and in at an angle, then back out to straight, he is a walking slip catch. When he isn't bowled first up.
