Baldrickian cunning plan: spread a few Jimmy injured stories then when the great man shows up hope the Aussies mentally disintegrate.

They must be expecting a flat pitch with no swing. Ep. 2 of The Ashes Project had a great stat, of the last 16 tests at Brisbane, Aus win 12-2 with 2 draws (this from memory), but the big thing is if you win the test, you win the series.
ENGLAND MUST WIN, or at least not get stuffed....

Must admit I don’t agree with this rotation policy; is it widely adopted by other test teams?

I don't think it is rotation, I think they reckon they can do without him in this test, and it was quite noticeable last summer how he was good for a first innings, first up new ball burst, and then he fell away, second knock particularly so, they're using him sparingly where he may be most use.

Must admit I don’t agree with this rotation policy even if it’s not the reason for JA not playing in this match; is it widely adopted by other test teams?

If Jimmy was 100% and/or a few years younger he would be playing every test, but if the pitch/conditions don't offer that much assistance and he has any sort of niggle then makes sense to save him for the day/night test.

Judging by the odd comment, I think he is carrying a niggle but they haven't wanted to out it in the hope it will calm down. Given it is his calf again and he is 39, plus the rigours of touring, I wonder if we will see him all series. Clearly Wood will only be fit for a couple so we will be into the back ups by the 3rd Test

So from the BBC,. Its 11 from 12!
Hameed Burns Malan Root Stokes Pope Butler Woakes Robinson Broad Wood Leach
So would suggest Broad/Leach will drop out depending on if it's going to spin.

It's not rotation Anderson is not up to a full series, he may well have a niggle, but he had something on and off for a couple of years, he would do, he's nearly 40, neither is Wood up to a full series, maybe even Broad doesn't have a full 4 or 5 games, so it is not rotation, it is as needs must ensuring they have some sort of attack over 4 or 5 games.
The most important bowlers are now Robinson and Woakes.
