Verma is 17, so maybe someone older needs to have a word with her along the lines of, you've done well the last year but that sort of stuff does you no favours.

If my 17 daughter showed that attitude on the rugby pitch, I would kick her arse, but suspect I would be in a queue behind her coach.

I just saw that in the news, seems fair play really, loads of games, never ending schedule, family stuff, injured. Take a break. Mind you, the ECB might want to have another look at players pitching up in the IPL and what ever other comp when they're contracted. |

I am pleased to see it reported 'as is'. I rather suspect that in the past it would have been sold as purely a physical injury.

My first live experience of the Hundred at Southampton yesterday, in purely cricket terms it was great, particularly the tense finish to the men's match. Personally I didn't feel much affinity with what I suppose should be 'my' team, Southern Brave, but I was quite surprised how much the home side were supported by the crowd. My first women's game too, I was very much looking forward to seeing Dani Wyatt bat after watching the T20 international a couple of weeks back and she didn't disappoint, looked calm and controlled, gradually built the pace of her innings perfectly. Very impressive! Downside for me, and I am fully aware that I am not the target audience for this and come across as a grumpy old git, but the screaming down the PA between each 'over' was way too loud, why shout when you have a microphone? Mind you the kids seemed to enjoy all that which I guess is sort of the point. Proper English cricket-watching weather too, occasional baking sun, rainy spells and high winds, you were always too hot or too cold! We stayed at the hotel overnight, which is a great way to avoid the crush to funnel out of the Rose Bowl and is also good for 'celeb' spotting as it's used by a lot of the players and media folk. Certain thread readers may have enjoyed the opportunity to have a word with James Vince as I queued for the lift next to him, or Mark Nicholas whom I passed on a stairwell as he charged up the stairs speaking loudly into his mobile phone. |

I feel obliged to say FOMN at this point, Goof. Glad you enjoyed it - I'm not tempted (I'm trying, and failing, to feel any emotional link with Northern Superchargers) but as you say, I'm most definitely not the target audience...

I don't know why you need an emotional link, this is just oh, there's good ball, shot, catch stumping, bit of fielding....

Maybe it doesn't exist in other counties, but if you're Yorkshire, you support Yorkshire CCC. Not Northern whatever. There's no emotional resonance. Especially when our players have been given to other counties for unknown reasons. |

OS - if I were that rational, in football, I'd save up for a ticket for Old Trafford or the Emirates (or even, heaven forgive, Elland Road) rather than traipsing down to Hillsborough. I suspect you may have hit on one of the ECB's aims - with my tinfoil hat on, I do worry that the ECB wouldn't be too sad if traditional fans' allegiances (and animosities) withered... |
