Are they batting stats? If so, that's the problem - what about their actual wicketkeeping?!

You have to have a plan, you can't just say Cook cannot be captain without a replacement. The replacement will have to warrant his place in the team for the rest of this series and further, perhaps all winter.

Cook will probably have to carry on as Opener as I do not see somebody stepping into those shoes either. England are really lin in crisis mode now. Although Prior going is not a problem as he has played so badly. The hooking stuff was a bit headless, once they had bagged a few runs, commonsense should have said let's stop this now. Depsite Root doing very well, his, Stokes, and Prior's dismissals weer pretty bad. Moeen has been found out re: the short ball. Imagine him on a fast pitch agianse Stey, Morkel, Mith, etc, but I feel he may learn to deal with it, i.e. duck.

So starting with the team, batting wise Cook and Bell are the big problems. Bell has played badly for a while, you would be asking for even more truble if both went, so to teach a lesson, Bell goes, likewise Broad who was pants, Prior has gone too, possibly permamnently. Robson is not certain of his place, but deserves a run. Stokes was daft too, and need a talking too, but he bowled well. I still like FInn, and Plunkett did well. So the question becomes who do you have as your number 4, Morgan, why not, with a view to him becoming captain. If not Morgan, why not root in 2 years time.

Cook
Robson
Ballance
Morgan
Root
Moeen
Butler
Stokes
Plunkett
Anderson
Finn

If it all goes really horribly wrong from here, Cook can then go and we find another opener (Lyth) I think Anderson won't put up with much more test cricket now either, especially if it goes wrong. There is stll Compton, James, Borthwick, Rashid, Bresnan, it looks a little thin, but that is how country cricket is. There could be some rough times. I well remeber the 80s, I saw england play test matches for a dozen years with seeing a single day of a game that England won, we could be back to that.

Cook going soon will be a great shame, because he is, and stillc could well be our best ever batsman.

Indeed Bill is his nephew, but let's blood him in, if Tendulkar, Ponting and Azharuddin had been English, guessing we'd never heard of them! Always England's hang up.

This is all bizarre, given that no-one from Yorkshire had barely a sniff of Test cricket between '88 and 94' or so (possibly Blakey in the at period for a couple of Tests). You could draft a Yorkie England team like this:

Lyth
Lees
Ballance
Root
Gale
Rashid
Bairstow
Bresnan
Plunkett
Patterson
Sidebottom

Of them, 3 are in the England team now, 2 have been in it in the last year, one was in the England team until his mid-thirties and three were/are talked about England potentials. Only Gale (bless’im ) and Patterson haven’t been on the England radar at one time or another…

Cheers, QMac - Ambrose, though? *shudder* He's not the player of five years ago but I'd love to see Fat Bob Key or Chris Read given the captaincy for the rest of the summer if Cook does change his mind...

Doctor K
I'm afraid Cook's had it. His interview yesterday was painful to hear but he's obviously going to last out the series, unfortunately, as we will definitely lose it.
That being the case I'd like to see Broad go and get his injuries seen to, replaced by Jordan and Stokes back to his county for a bit - 5 ducks in 10 innings isn't good enough -his bowling might just sace him though -replacement -Bresnan. Looks like Buttler for Prior although he will be missing for Lancashire and that will harm my county. I'd drop Bell too...
