Gooch scored 1058 (0,85,37,154,30,333,123,116,7,85,88) in the summer tests of 1990 against India and New Zealand. I don't know if that is the record, I just checked Gooch as it was an amazing summer.

Note then that Ballance's first few scores in your list were against SL, so he's only in the 300s for this single series against India.
