In fact it seems my general rule is things that take one had I do left handed, things that take two hands I do right handed (so tennis racket left, cricket bat, golf club right)

I took “handed-ness” in sports like golf and cricket to be linked more to footed-ness.

Basically if someone pushed you in the back, which foot would you put forwards? The one that doesn’t move is your handed-ness in batting. That is how snowboarding rentals decide which Board type you get (which foot forward)

I played hockey with a left handed player. Obviously it is a right handed game which made his inside out technique very difficult to play against.

Back to the picture. Like OS I got 11 and missed the man behind the South African. I was nine and starting to get into cricket, still hate George Davis's mates. Really became obsessed in the classic summer of 1976.

Goofee, I'd disagree because although the dominant hand for positioning the bat is the 'wrong' one, all the power comes from the 'good' hand.

I am a bit younger so although I had a passing interest in 1981, it was the 1984 West Indians (awesome) and the 85 Aussies (less so but can still remember most of their team) that piqued my interest. Sad to report I no longer have the Texaco cards and medals of that West Indies/England series.

I think what the author was arguing was that finesse was more important than power, and the more skilful the batsman, the more likely to bat 'the wrong way round'. It was a long time ago though, I could easily be mis-remembering to some degree. The article had quite a list of those that conformed to the theory, I can only remember Gower and Tim Robinson, though.
