It just occurred to me that one of the great strengths of TMS over the years is the 'opposition' commentator. I have loved hearing Tony Cozier, Jim Maxwell and others. Tony Cozier had a warm hug of a voice. My favourite by far.

Absolutely Grouchers. I loved gaining an understanding of different teams through their TMS commentators. Each series had a unique special feel to it about that. After witnessing my first Ashes of 1985, the follow on tour to the West Indies was a whole different thing, what with the conch shells, buoyant crowd (as England got thumped), and of course TC.

Oh yes, the conch shells, that's given me goose bumps. I was just about properly into cricket for 1984, by 1985 Ashes it was on the radio as I practiced against the garage wall. I remember Ellison taking loads of wickets... and yes, that West Indies tour, perfect for late night radio that I shouldn't have been listening to (I was coming up 14).

The TMS line up has (at least in more recent times since the mid-90s) been more diverse than the alternatives.

Love the overseas commentators too.
I remember driving round Australia a few years back listening to an ABC commentary on a ODI. One of the Aussies raised the question who have the BBC sent us this year? When told the guest commentator was (for the first time) female he exclaimed "really, the poms have sent us a Sheila! What are the rules about ribbing Sheila's?"

For goodness sake - how can we be an effective test team if we have to earn 15 wickets to take 10. That's two regulation slip catches now...

Nothing was regulation when I had a go in the slips, mind you I didn't find it regulation in the deep either, I could get in the way in the covers.

I like Jeremy Coney when he's on.
