Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Day at the Gabba today watching Aus V Pakistan. Old school test cricket with only one wicket in the day (plus another from a no ball). Warner was 99 not our at tea and I was hopeful he would be out after the break but it wasn't to be. It looked on TV like there was noone there but the cameras look toward the sunny side and the crowd are all sat in the shade. Must have been at least 10,000 there today.

Really, that's a small crowd, it is getting to the stage where only England (and Wales) attract a decent crowd for test matches...

Eng should win now....

Not really WS. Test match crowds in England in the last few years have been at their highest levels since the 1950s, but Australia and India are the other places that can really draw a crowd. Our grounds are just not that big. Lords is the largest ground and holds 28k, Trent Bridge & Durham only hold 17 000.

In comparison, Australia typically get over 70k on Boxing Day at the MCG (it was 88k on day 1 against England in 2017), the SCG had more than 30k in for each of the first 3 days against India earlier this year.

The official attendance at the Gabba yesterday was 13 561. England probably wouldn't get over 10 000 at Headingley for day 1 of a test v Pakistan.

Don't forget it isn't in the Test World Championships, so no points for winning.

For comparison, the attendances for NZ vs WI at Hamilton (the series decider), a couple of years ago: 1,196 on Saturday, 1,186 on Sunday, 686 on Monday and 394 on Tuesday. The attendances at Wellington topped 2 000 only on the Saturday and Sunday too.

....which given that it costs about 10 dollars (about £3.50) is shocking... granted the prices have probably gone up since I went to the Basin Reserve is about 2007 for that price.

Anyone know the last time the first day of a test match in London wasn’t sold out?
