Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I do agree about baseball having the best fights. NFL players have to much padding and helmets for a good punch up. Ice hockey generally doesn’t have enough players but baseball is perfect

Ice Hockey fights are a bit sanitised. Not enough out of control mayhem. Saw the Maple Leafs with a mate who moved to Canada. He pointed out one bloke on each bench and said they were the designated fighter; if one was subbed onto the pitch the other would immediately follow and within a few seconds they’d fight.

Happened exactly like that, and it was mostly grappling anyway.

Basketball fights can be as good as baseball ones; it’s just the bench emptying and everyone charging into the middle that edges baseball for me.

I can’t remember any cricket fights. Chappell and Botham, Warner slapping Root not televised and, somehow, Big GATT managed to stop himself planting one on Shakir Rana....

2 blokes with pads, helmets and bats versus 11 blokes. Not really conducive for a cheeky rumble

Lillee v Javed Miandad is the best known one, pretty tame compared to other sports. Miandad hit Lillee for 4, which prompted a display of the sportsmanship that Australia is famous for - Lillee walked into him and then kicked him, at which point Miandad swung his bat at Lillee and Chappell and the umpire quickly intervened.

I won't bore you with the details, which I've recounted on here before. Let's just say, two men with padding and bats came off better than eleven angry fielders.
