England have issues keeping anyone in very long - 300 runs gone
England largely cannot bowl that's 300 runs given

They're gutless wankers, and I spurn them as I would spurn a rabid dog.
Given what they are capable of, and given the quality of the opposition this is the worst tour and series performance ever. Deserves a 5-0, and these cricketers deserve to have their careers haunted by the shame and humiliation that comes with it.

Carberry has severe problems with his technique, but then he should never have been selected.
Root and Bairstow, yes got out stupidly, but they are just in the start of their test career and the team is imploding around them. They need a bit of slack. Remember Bairstow and Bresnan have had almost zero cricket since the end of last summer as well. Stokes also played a stupid shot to get out.
Bell cannot be excused - he's a senior player and needs to take some responsibility. He should be batting 3. Root at 4.
Cook played well, as did KP - credit where credit is due - he's done ok in this test and played like he should have done in the previous tests. But, I still wouldn't have him in my team.
Bowlers cannot be expected to completely bail out the team every time with the bat - batsmen are in there to bat and bowlers are in there to bowl.
The coaching staff needs to take a bit of responsibility for not preparing the tail to face the short ball. Even if you haven't got a 90mph bowler on hand to face bouncers, the technique can be taught (ideally ducking) using a bowling machine - I'm sure that could have been arranged whilst they were down there.
Last night was the most disappointing of the tour - to go from a winning position to a potentially losing one so spectacularly was very, very disappointing.
Interesting little chat on TMS before play last night about captaincy and how future England captains are going to get captaincy experience if they're not playing County Cricket.

Very harsh on Carberry - he has done better than most.

indeed Paul, I am not sure why everyone is against him.

He's had 4 or 5 starts and not gone on in any of them - he completely lacks the ability to affect the bowler by exerting pressure onto them - not like KP attempts to do, but by rotating strike and looking to push the bowler offline - it's put a lot of pressure on Cook to do the scoring and that really hasn't helped him at all. He just gets completely becalmed and doesn't score.
That's why he shouldn't be in the team.

Interesting view, I don't share it but interesting all the same. So who should be taking Carb's place opening then? Indeed who do we believe should be given a chance?

Well, I thought Nick Compton had done enough to keep his place, and wouldn't have dropped him.
But, I accept that given the options available he has to play.
I am very, very surprised that Ballance hasn't had a chance. What was the point in taking him if he wasn't going to play (same to be said for Rankin and Finn) - they should have put them out to the concurrent Lions tour and called them up if necessary. Same with Bairstow - they need some cricket. Not sat on a bench watching a team lose.

Nick Compton did score a couple of centuries against New Zealand, but he too generally showed problems with becoming becalmed. Which I think is why he was dropped. Bairstow and Root showed technical issues during the summer which don't necessarily seem sorted. Bairstow in particular. The whole team is struggling though. It needs a magic session from Broad or Anderson to save this.

Perhaps we ought to burn this thread in memory of English cricket.
