Indeed, Horses for courses, Finn. Anderson would still win us games in England.

Keep Carberry, he does have a few years left and he can brush up on a few things

I think he is wrong, he is saying stick with the same side and chnage one maybe 2 players, if we lose again, then you make one or tow chnages again....what would you learn there, not much.

As far as I can see yo know what yu get from Cook, Swann, Anderson, KP, and Prior, so, why not kick their arse, and change 3 or 4, I think it doesn't matter if we lose 5-0, it's gone, but we might find Balance does well like Stokes has, we might find Finn takes wickets, which is actually our problem. We migth find Panesay does better than Swann now, we might fond the basis of our team for the next few years, we might find an era has eneded, it always does, just as it di for Australia last summer...and they will chnage again before the next Ahses, Harris, Haddina nd Rodgers will not be there.

For England, if you ask me, Swann, KP and Anderson won't be, we may as well get on with it.

That old chestnut 'brutal honesty in the changing room'.

Thought we had that before Perth?

Trouble is brutal honesty is about more than 'sorry skip, played a couple of bad shots there'. Brutal honesty would involve some admitting the hunger's gone, some admitting the body's gone and others confessing to slack preparation and complacency that has been building for 12-18 months. Players in the first two categories should be jettisoned, the others perhaps the brutal reality check of having to show their hunger and desire in County Cricket before any renewal of the central contract? Maybe a couple have done everything right, just been swept up in the tsunami of shit created by the rest.

Management have to play their part: some terrible selection decisions, inability to prepare the players for what they must have known was coming and for having a one dimensional gameplan and an inability to change it.

Not sure Alec really has got it: this is the worst England Ashes effort of all time (in my knowledge anyway) because the Australians are not THAT good, and we are a decent, experienced side with proven Ashes winners. We could have won, maybe they did have the edge in home conditions but we should have been capable of putting up some sort of fight as an absolute minimum. Getting slaughtered, not even threatening a win: diabolical.

Having said all that, I'd still pick the same 11 - they deserve to be out there suffering, copping the derision and abuse and having to either find themselves again or get that 5-0 millstone and probably the reputation as our worst team ever (in an Ashes series).

Doctor K
What happens with central contracts if they suddenly decide 4 or 5 are no longer up to test standard -do they stay on them for the 12 months?

Chopping and changing and making wholesale changes won't get the results you want to see, TS. Because there would be too much inexperience.

By all means, get rid of maybe 2/3 - I'd keep Cook and Anderson (still our best bowler, despite having a couple of bad tests) - as it seems that Broad may not be fit for next test, so Finn comes in anyway.

KP (definitely) out, Prior (maybe) out and Swann (probably) out.
