Sounds about bloody typical!!

More from BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew on today's ICC announcements:

Jonathan tweets: Reckon they have got just about everything wrong. No change to bad light rule. No proper punishment for time wasting and more reviews… and still the ban on runners debacle waiting to destroy the finale of a Test match/jeopardise a player's career. *Urgently hunts for blood pressure tablets*

Standard world sport governance I'm afraid EJers. There are some articles on Cricinfo about the BCCI (I think Gideon Haigh;s was outstanding) that make me weep for the future of the game. They've just arbitrarily called off a tour to SA so they can invite the WI for some meaningless thing to glorify themselves. Some BCCI execs have even said that India shouldn't tour as it wasn't financially in their best interests to do so. They made much more at home.

The upper echelons of sport are always a year or so what is happening on the ground, a bit like footie and goal line technology.

Mind you I am of the opinion that there should be no use of technology whatsoever in Cricket, just get on with it, I feel that same for football. The umpire/ref's decision is final, right or wrong, so accept it, move on. I think cricket is showing that whatever technology you have to hand, mistakes are made.

the telly coverage can talk out of it's arse as much as it likes.

...and England's policy of slowly recruiting the entire Yorkshire squad continues. Has anyone ever seen Gary Ballance and Fat Bob Key in the same room?

It's the Tim Bresnan decision that's confused me a bit - have they picked him, not picked him, but he's travelling with them anyway to play with the test squad if fit or as above, but with the development squad?

If he's genuinely injured, then surely he's better off here and getting fit again and then flying out if fit?

Just seems an odd one.

Glad they've recognised that Bairstow is a wk/batsman not a batsman batsman.

Ballance deserves a chance - he's had a great season.

Notice Alex Lees is in the development squad as well. No place for Adam Lyth or Andrew Gale though.

Yorkshire do need to find some more batsmen for next year. Looks like we could be supplying at least half a team by then. Not complaining like, but Yorkshire CC being strong is good for England and English Cricket.

No Adil Rashid in development squad either - that's one they might regret a bit - leg spinning all-rounder - could have been very useful.

Stokes is a good pick. As is Rankin. Finn was obvious. Tremlett v lucky - don't think he'd have gone if Bres fit.

Also no James Taylor in either squad.

Surprised by Carberry pick. Really not sure he's done enough. Big runs on v flat Hampshire wicket largely? What's his away form been like this year? Compton must be furious.

Whereas Compton scores his runs on that well-known seamers' paradise at Taunton... ;)

Woakes can't be happy; from Test team to no squad, having nearly batted England to an Ashes win. He's a more than adequate fourth seamer; his bowling was only exposed because Kerrigan got the other bowling place on a seamers' pitch.
