Oh dear, much confusion amongst my running friends about what ‘COVID secure’ means in the EA’s latest guidance. I understand the club have more details from EA but they are still in the process of going through it.

Covid secure - likely to be similar to that in place for all other group situations. A full risk assessment to be made by the organisation, social distancing maintained, health/cleanliness/hygiene reinforced ( possibly with proviso in some situations that participants arrive in their running kit to avoid changing, travel independently or with other members of their household and contact details taken for all participants to enable track and tracing.

I hope so Kev, some people are taking secure to mean training in a location where you can control who has access e.g. a track. I didn’t think that sounded right.

FDNB - our running group have been holding events adhering to social distance guidelines in an area where access is not controlled - in that there are others ( cyclists, pedestrians, fitness classes ) using the same location. the control comes through Each individual group - some have their own bubbles - we control by having groups of no more than 6 - although in reality you are running by yourself or household member most of the time. All participants are registered beforehand ( or at least before they take part ) . Self timing but that is only to remove the need for a mass start. Any passing or overtaking within current guidelines. No changing facility although there are public toilets open for all. Quite a few trail races also going ahead in the next few weeks.

I’ve found the guidance on the EA site now and it’s as you say Kev. I do wish I could go on the club FB page and tell certain people to read the guidance before they start talking out of their backsides! 😅

Given the way track is currently set out, I can't see how road races can happen.

It’s nonsense considering full contact football is allowed (AIUI).
