I took mum for hers today.

We turned up 20 mins early because we weren't sure how much parking there was. she was back in the car before her appt time was due.
Because she wasn't on public transport or driving and it was AZ, there was no 15 min wait for her,
There was a room full of people who had got there under their own steam being kept an eye on though.

Mum was invited by letter to a choice of two centres a long way away and then by phone from the GP to a different centre also a long way away.

On the same day. GP only booking one jab, letter both.

OH got a text.

I had an email offering me a booking today. It was a scam.

My mum (78) got a call from her GP surgery (rural Scotland) yesterday to ask if she would be available to be ‘on standby’ for her vaccination early next week (presumably in case they had any no-shows). Another call today with a confirmed appointment for Saturday morning and also a date for the second jab.

Novavax news looks excellent, against the old variant it appears to have performed as well as Pfizer (95%+ efficacy) and overall 89% efficacy in UK phase III trials.

60m doses to be manufactured on Teesside, subject to approval.

Can be stored 2-8 degrees C and 27% of the trial was done on people aged 65+

South African trial showed 60% efficacy, I think it’s currently unknown how the other approved vaccines would perform against it.

Still some hurdles to get through but sounds potentially very good and might be used for much of the remaining UK population.

Feels like there might come a point where they stop giving the AZ vaccine?

Crappy weather, which made lockdown even more miserable. But not to worry. Plenty more dull days to look forward to.

Um, he is to go to Milford on Sea hospital (which I didn't know existed).
Good news that there may soon be another vaccine option, and that so many people's parents are getting their vaccination.

Swittle, I am only parroting some bits of the press release from Novavax here:

ir.novavax.com

Note SA trial is phase II (circa 4,400 patients) and the 95% confidence interval for efficacy is 20-80%(!!) so that 60% number isn’t solid by any means yet.
