I dunno, there's some human beings I would be more than happy to spend 2 metres away from in perpetuity. In fact a couple of miles would be preferable. At least.

Going back a few pages, but CStar, how did you find it at those events you did? Enjoyable, or a bit nerve-wracking? Personally, I have done quite a few running events in the last 18 months, and really enjoyed the relative-'normality' of them, and although not the cricket like you attended, I have a fairly large open-aired gig at Eden Project mid-September that I am very much looking forward to, and the day after a show at the Minack (open aired theatre). Personally I would still be more wary of attending a large gig inside, but outside I am more happy to do so. In fairness to Tim, I can understand where he is coming from. The parkruns (England) I have done have felt pretty much like normal; I suppose people are marginally more spread out at the start and there is hand sanitiser at the finish, but other than that pretty normal from a runner's point of view. What do people think London marathon will do? Surely there will be no social distancing in place there, and that is not that far away? |

"Strange" was maybe the wrong word. Perhaps, better to say that my local Parkrun is out-of-step with wider society. And, of course, minimising social contact before, during and after the run (which is now in excess of 5kms) doesn't stop runners gathering together as nornal before and after. |

Round here all the shops are still asking for masks, even tho not legally mandated. Doesn’t seem that out of step really. In the best case, it will fade over time and I’m fine with that.

The parkrun Covid framework itself is out of step with wider society now as it was developed when gov guidelines were stricter. But I guess it's enabling more cautious people to return to parkrun, whether to run or to volunteer. Ours feels relatively normal. We're still not token-sorting in the cafe straight afterwards but some seem to be.

One day, I will maybe make a comment here that people won't disagree with lol. Personally, I have two main reasons for doing Parkrun. One is the social side (truncated just now) and the second is to test myself over a measured 5kms (not applicable either). So, maybe I should just do club training until the 'normal' Parkrun returns. I fully accept though that, for many, any Parkrun is better than no Parkrun. I wish them all brilliant Saturday mornings |

Tim, not all parkruns will be long. Currently running the new B course at Bournemouth and my Garmin has measured it as 3.11 and 3.13 miles. I guess the advice from HQ is that if a new (temporary) course is not being measured then it should be long rather than short.

Interestingly, went to the physio yesterday and into town to Aldi fir my monthly shop. First one after mask wearing is no longer obligatory. I saw MORE masks, not less, interestingly! As if, now that it is no longer demanded, people are happier donning them because it is their CHOICE not a govt mandate. |

From wiki.parkrun.com "Alternative courses should be slower than regular courses, in most cases this means they should be longer" I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that this is to avoid the possibility that someone record an unattainable "course assisted" PB on an alternate course. My home run is basically the same route as always, with a slightly different arrangement before the start. Since I'm starting right at the back, and press start when the RD shouts "go", I've consistently seen about 5.2k rather than the previous usual 5.0k. |
