I feel similar to UltraDunc, though I suspect my customer will be motivated to observe at least some infection control measures.

I’ve noticed a growing number of customers without face covering and as I’m not allowed to say anything to them it’s difficult to know if they are exempt, accidentally forgotten or just plain obstinate. The only saving grace is a screen , except that doesn’t protect completely as some people will poke their faces around it so that I can hear them so much better. Sorry folks , it’s been a tiring first day back after a brilliant holiday in Snowdonia .

Can somebody explain to me how we get out of this then ? We have been wearing a mask since July last year. We are now almost all vaccinated. Clearly there are vulnerable people who can’t be vaccinated. Or maybe they can but they’re still vulnerable. The rest of the population even if vaccinated can still get it and pass it on. Though at a weaker strain. SO if this is the case how do we move on ? At what point
??! What are we expecting? I am genuinely asking this it’s not an argument My head doesn’t understand how on earth it is going to end. New strains. Etc. What would people who don’t want restrictions to end on Monday want to see before restrictions can end??

I’d want to see everyone offered vaccination first. That doesn’t seem an unreasonable thing to expect.

Agree. Like everyone, I want the old life back (mostly). I want to travel, and not to be nervous in busier areas. However, nothing at the moment makes sense. How can it be "freedom" when we're still encouraged to test and isolate, and daily figures are reported?

Surely freedom is when it's "yup, we've got this, jabs and meds mean at any one time x% of the population will carry the virus, but the chances of you being very unwell are minimal". A bit like with another well known coronavirus, the common cold.
The current plan seems to be "we're taking away ways to stop it spreading, then trying to find every single case". Surely that's madness??

I too want to know when those advocating retaining restrictions would be 'content' (if not happy) for them to go.

ScotGov seem to be moving more slowly than England and look likely to retain mandatory face coverings in some settings beyond August.

The face coverings one is difficult. I have literally been in empty train carriages or cafes where wearing one was ludicrous.

Controversial comment coming up. Takes a deep breath...

Maybe we should just stop testing except when hospital admissions show there is a real problem in a certain area? Or stop testing in a control area to see what happens? Looking at Worldometers, the UK case:deaths ratio is completely out of kilter with all other countries. The ones with a similar case number have about a thousand daily deaths, whilst those with the same number of deaths have under a thousand cases.

Then there is the issue of healthy workers and children having to isolate due to contacts, affecting the running of schools and parts of the NHS, and problems with the app. Maybe we have got too hung up on tests rather than actual illness?

Mrs Jigs (Luverlylegs)
I have done everything possible to keep myself, my family and those I come into contact with safe, I have managed to avoid catching coronavirus as has Jigs, I will continue to behave the same going forward until I feel safe to let down my guard, this will probably mean I won’t eat out as I have been because others won’t need to wear masks or observe social distancing, it’s no big deal, grocery shopping is going to be more of a problem, despite being double jabbed I am resigned to the fact I am at bigger risk of catching covid as restrictions are lifted, I still think it’s too early, wearing a mask is no big deal, we should at least still continue to wear them and keep distance. We still have quite a way to go with vaccinations, I want everyone to feel safe.

I tend to agree with you Non-runner.

In the beginning it was only hospital admissions being tested. Then it was opened up to people showing symptoms. More recently we have had the surge testing in areas where the Alpha and now Delta variant have been found. Each time the testing has increased, the number of cases has gone up. If you look for more, you will find more.

Tim, I think we need to change the mindset from restrictions as we open up and there should be sensible precautions that help protect us all.

Mask wearing is a good example and I think it should remain albeit there are times when common sense should be applied.

My brief trip to england at the weekend showed me that most people carry masks, but very few actually bother wearing them and just have them pulled down even when in close proximity to and interacting with others. I have seen this in Scotland but not as much.
