JDA do you agree with what the CMO said this morning?

Also I see they have now put priority on testing and said Jo Public is to test only if you have symptoms or have been told by a health professional to get a test

sounds like we are back to Feb

That seems a useful summary jda, complicated further by not knowing exactly who the vulnerable are. I appreciate we have a good idea of who many of them are.

I’d generally tend towards the Greenhalgh Approach, but would agree with Sikora’s first two “specific comments” around the need to not be overly obsessed with one particular virus, but consider the broader impact of what we’re doing (which both parties acknowledge but Sikora states more bluntly). Sustainable measures across all of a joined up society, but knowing/sharing what the goal of those measures is, seems quite sensible. I’d appreciate more of a sense of purpose and direction from our Dear Leaders right now.

FWIW I don’t think I’d ever heard of any of these characters so hopefully not prejudiced either way before reading...

EP, we have heard of schools saying children need a test before they can return, but sounds like they don't have the power to say that unless the school nurse has such authority?

well I think that schools have been over cautious due to concerns about it easily spreading which I totally get but from what I have also been hearing the majority of the time it's almost certainly a cold or indeed asthma
and this demand for a negative has caused part of the problem with getting tests especially as the rule was "if you live with someone with symptoms test" so 1 kid sent home whole family panicked and asked for a test increasing demand even further especially when you have kids at the same school

New guidelines are:
he health secretary says tests will first be given to support acute clinical care.

Secondly, testing will be given to care homes, then NHS staff including GPs and pharmacists.

Fourth on the list will be tests for "targeted testing" for outbreaks.

Teachers with symptoms will be fifth, followed by the general public but "if and only if they have symptoms of coronavirus or have been specifically advised to by a health professional".

So now teachers and kids are well down the list. Will this mean more schools go "yeah probably a cold" and not kick out whole "bubbles"? Only time will tell but I think they are trying to reduce demand significantly to make tests available for those who really need to NOT take time off

Both ours have coughs. They’re not hacking all day and no temp so we’re carrying on as normal. I say normal - they go school. I work from home. My wife has very limited contact with others. We don’t see any friends or family nearby.

watched an interesting video on BBC about how to tell the difference between cold/flu/COVID. it defined a persistent cough as continually coughing for over an hour, or more than 3 coughing fits in 24 hours
