Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fopp - before you discount masks, why do you think there's so much uptake WW?
You cite the number of infections as masks not working.

What if masks have blocked (eg) 60-70% of infections? How bad would it be without them?

Fopp, me too. I follow the rules of course but hate the things, I miss seeing smiles. My learning disabled cousin is totally traumatised by seeing people in them.

Rosehip, I suppose the stupidity of continuing to do something that hasn't worked rankles me more than most but more so the psychological effect it has on people I think is damaging. It engenders fear and I don't think this is a healthy mindset. I prefer a bit more stiff upper lip and crack on with life because it's too short for all this whining and worrying.

UM, the uptake is partly to do wish it being legislated and the legislation is due to countries just copying each other for fear of being the ones caught out by not doing it. It's a just in case mentality rather than a scientific one. I blame globalisation and social media, it's just created a global group think.

Why do you think mask wearing hasn’t worked, I personally believe if only one less person gets infected then it’s worth it. Surely wearing something that maybe uncomfortable but May save a life is worth it.

Fopp, I think that is part of masks effectiveness. Their psychological effect is absolutely intended. I have no problem wearing them, but what scares me is now some people advocate their use post pandemic.

...'stiff upper lip and crack on with life because it's too short for all this whining and worrying'...

I guess you don't work in the healthcare sector or care about those who do.

Personally, I will now happily wear a buff in shops etc. They're comfy, warm and stay up (meaning that I don't have to endlessly fiddle with them). Wouldn't really be keen on a medical mask.
