MH - I suppose I am able to divorce my thinking from emotional influences if that's what you're trying to say. Caring or not has nothing to do with it.

So you are saying that because there are some stats of people having got infected despite wearing masks, that mask wearing is pointless? Despite the fact that mask wearing is one of a combination of measures to prevent infection. But mask wearing could also have prevented 80% of infections but you won't know cause you can only see the ones who got infected. Sorry, but what a load of rubbish. I guess if you catch it, you don't want any help getting over it? What with your stiff upper lip and ability to just crack on? |

Fopp, you can just state you're a covid denier if you'd rather, rather than perform this complex dance, it will save us all time

I had assumed that Covid deniers had died out due to natural selection. Actually I say "assumed" when I meant "hoped".

Roberto - I am saying that I don't think they work, ergo I don't think they have prevented 80% (or whatever other number you like to make up) of infections. If I had to guess seeing as we're making numbers up, I would say that masks have saved almost nobody from dying. I don't think they should be mandated anywhere and I would prefer others not to wear them but I respect their opinion and freedom to do what they like with their own body. My philosophy on life does not make me uncompassionate but my occasional indelicate phrasing sometime does.

nature.com tl;dr: Masks work, but they are not infallible. And, therefore, keep your distance. |

What does denying I was a denier make me? Seriously, don't discredit yourselves by wheeling out covid denier tropes.

Actually you have got it all wrong, you wearing a mask protects me. What about my rights to expect everyone to wear a mask when I got shopping. Frankly I am sick to death of hearing about people right not to wear a mask, a very selfish attitude.

There is an extremely wide "Covid Spectrum" of opinion. At one end of this spectrum perhaps sit those who believe that there is no virus (conspiracy theorists etc). At the other end of the spectrum perhaps sit those who have obsessive OCD and a level of fear totally disproportionate with their circumstances. Most of us here aren't at either extreme. But there are 'fifty shades of grey' in between. We all need to respect that. |

I fully know my numbers were made up, but there is more than enough scientific evidence out there to show they help reduce transmission. Certainly much more than a stiff upper lip does. But as you apparebtly don't feel the need to provide your evidence when you wade into a conversation where it has already been debated repeatedly with lots of evidence already shared, I'm.not going to waste time to find it again. Also, don't pretend it's delicate phrasing. You have come here with a purpose to rile people up. Many people here who have lost loved ones, and have struggled with the virus themselves. |
