Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

There are plenty more expert than me on this one. But what I heard on 909 this morning was about each vaccine hitting a slightly different part of the spectrum. So you had a broader slightly more comprehensive protection.

It was also much better from a practical point of view giving surgeries more flexibility if they had stock of a different vaccine to your first jab then you could still get your follow up as planned.

I could see mixing working. Makes slightly different antibodies. The valvena approach uses an inactive virus so different again.
I imagine in future boosters might use a blended approach to target several different strains, much like the flu vaccine where they might the most prevalent strains each season.

The delivery method research could be a game changer too. Pick up your booster in your own time from the pharmacist, applied using a patch or nasal spray.

"“An mRNA is a much more “minimal” vaccine, whereas an adenovirus-based vaccine exposes the immune system to many adenovirus proteins that can induce antibodies that may neutralize the adenovirus for subsequent boosts,”Hwu added."

Yep, that's the reason I heard JB. If the immune system destroys the adenovirus too quickly, the RNA can't get into cells and do its job. It's not usual to do a mixture though as far as I'm aware, so they could get some odd results.

Someone my partner works with has tested positive for a second time using the lateral flow tests they are using in their school.

She had it originally in October, then she had the Pfizer vaccine 2 weeks ago and yesterday tested positive so has now gone for a retest. Apparently she does have at least one symptom but I can't remember which one.

Hopefully it's just a false positive, otherwise its a bit concerning.

I think the AZ vaccine is like real ale as you can't seem to find it in continental Europe.
