I want to shift it permanently, at the moment the bleed coincides either with events or with long training runs, which is just dumb! Hadn't thought about taking a few extra but yes, maybe that's the way to go instead, good point!

That should be fine, sallykate, provided you don't let your pill-free week get extended. Alternatively, take two packs consecutively and stop for your break after 39 days rather than after 18 days.

I was on Depo injections which really suited me, as I scuba dive and being on a boat in the Red Sea with a load of men and 'Egyptian marine toilets' isn't ideal when you have heavy periods. I was badgered and pestered every time I went for my jab to change form of contraception with particular emphasis on the implant it was really starting to piss me off. I just didn't want periods. I was led to believe that the Mirena was the best option and I wouldn't get periods so I had it fitted. I had horrendous stomach pains, and dodgy tummy for a few months, but I stuck with it. I also had very very painful boobs every time I was due on. My periods haven't stopped but are more regular than they used to be, the painful boobs have calmed down, my periods don't last quite as long and also I don't get the stomach cramps I used to suffer with before I went on the Depo. I'd still like to go back on the Depo for the lack of periods but I doubt it will be encouraged. I'm moving house later in the year and will be getting a new GP anyway so I'll see what they say. What are the dangers if any of being on Depo long term?

went to see a consultant about my asthma today. He said it's got worse because of the weight I'm carrying around and has told me to drop a stone. Never been told by a medic to lose weight before, I'm quite embarrassed. I was also very upset and frustrated, all this effort, nothing to show for it and now it's been affecting my health too. Also spoke to my GP and I've been moved off depo and onto the mini-pill for the time being. Fingers crossed things start to shift now. |

Thinking of having the merina removed (fitted last April), to be honest it has been great for me, very slight smudge/spotting and no other side effects. But although i thought i was done with babies i've been thinking more and more about potential baby number 3! Must be mad! The having it inserted wasn't painful more uncomfortable i'd say. I am worried about having it removed!! And wondering how long it takes for periods to resume. Also read elsewhere if you try to conceive too soon after removal more chance of miscarraige. This is why we never opted for the snip although my hubby god bless him is very willing, lol! More hassle free sex he said, why wouldn't he, lol!

Snips are great for the man, but not all ladies might agree. However the planet, surely, is full enough?

I would never ask my husband to have a vasectomy after reading up on post op complications when we were weighing up our options recently. With regards to the implant, there are two types, right? Which one is best? |

What's the prevalence of post-op complications though? 1 in 12? 1 in 6? 1 in 3?

Snip is easy and done as an Out Patient. Yes there are potential complications but they vary from the mild soreness to the flipping painful (post op infection when I had mine!) Just follow the post-op instructions and most of the nastiness is gone after 2-3 days. |
