The effects of Depo-Provera on weight are hugely variable. That "average" conceals a wide range of experiences - some women lose weight, others absolutely ladle it on. I've known one lass manage to take off 7 stone by diet and exercise while on Depo, but a bit of weight gain is far more typical.

i love the way they quote the number of women who reported a pregnancy but didn't quote the number of women who have used the implant so there is no context for the number at all. eg if 1 million have used the device and only 500 have fallen pregnant, I'd say that's pretty good. however if 10,000 women have used it and 500 have fallen pregnant, then it's terrible and badly used condoms would be more effective. it's meaningless without context having said that I hate ALL hormonal contraception as it messes with my head and lands me up on antidepressants every time. despite the fact that for other health reasons, the pill would be my best treatment option. the hell of the hormones just isn't worth it. |

It doesn't say how many of those Implanon failures were due to the Implanon not actually coming out of the insertion device either ... I'd've thought either the person who failed to insert it or the woman who didn't have a rod in her arm would have noticed!

yes, both very valid points that I thought about too since posting the link... numbers are irrelevant without context. and some people must just be plain dumb (although I think V'rap would be more aware of this than most...) |

Random question: if I want to change the first day of my pill cycle should I just stop the current pack a couple of days early? At the moment I take the last one on a Thursday but I want to change that to a Monday -- will it be OK not to take the last three of my current pack? (As in, there won't be any sneaky ovulation going on?)

why not take a few more to lengthen your pill taking time and then take the 7 days off? would have thought that was safer than shortening it? or if it is a specific event you want to avoid having a period for, just take 2 packs back to back with no break for that event. *awaits qualified response from a doctor or nurse* |
