Thanks Lyns, i like the sound of periods stopping, it might be worth a try. it sounds less scary than having a coil, i've not had kids and heard it can be a bit painful being fitted.
i did manage a good 10 miler at the weekend despite having me period so was really happy!

I've had a mirena coil in for 7 years, they're only officially meant to last for 5 years, but I've heard that they are reliable up to 10, I've not had a period in all that time, which I think's great, although I've heard ladies saying that they like their periods because it reminds them they are a woman.
Mine was also fitted when I've not had kids, it wasn't comfortable, but I just relaxed and I knew I wanted it in so I put up with the pain, I've definitely had much worse pain while running a marathon! I took some brufen for a couple of days afterwards to deal with the cramping pains that it gave me but appart from that I've not really noticed it's there

I have tried the copper coil. It gave me very heavy periods that lasted for ten days. It wasn't at all painful having it fitted - but I'd had two kids by then (I don't think it is recommended for women who haven't had chidlren generally)
I was on the pill for years (Marvelon an old style pill) - it was fine. Tried Cerazette (mini pill) in between children. It turned me into an absolute raving lunatic. I told the doctor I would never go near it again!
After child no 3, I'm afraid I told my husband to sort it - luckily he did!
I've heard the mirena coil is good but it does take people a long time to get pregnant afterwards (like your periods may not return for a year)

Gymfreak - Cerezette did the same with me!! Was bloody awful and inconvenient (literally)!! I've got an Implanon implant now - It's brill!! Down to a couple of days every so often (between 6 and 12 weeks) - sounds unpredictable, but you can usually tell when it's coming.

Am in agony. Last time i had pain like this was earlier this year when I unknowingly ( till I got to hospital) had miscarried having not know I was pregnant. I can't be prgnant with dates times pill taking etc but am on end of week 1 of second pack of cerazette. Could it just be a breakthrough period coming on? *doubles over with more cramping *

Funny how things are so different for everyone. I went on Cerazette about 3 years ago and haven't had a period since that, no pain, no nothing. Microgynon was the most hideous thing on the planet and I had horrible cramps.

Agree with microgynon. Horrid stuff but cheap for Nhs i guess.

I have a mirena coil. Kinda freaked me out a bit at first. Had a lot of random bleeding at first but nothing like I had before (leaving trails, having to sit on towels, making a mess of bed linen, always wearing black trousers 'in case', generally having a miserable time of it). In fact, I feel a great deal better.
Doesn't work for everyone but I think it's given me my life back one week a month.
