Great changes. The new map encouraged me to go out and do a route specifically to pick up some more zones. Was easier to work this out using the new map. Thanks

[I plan a sneaky little run in Borganes now
I hope you have a great trip. It is beautiful out there; but lovelier in the North of course. And in all fairness, the South East is probably the most spectacular.]

A week's holiday gave me only 16 zones. This is due to having MIL with us and being the guests of BIL. Also because I had no transport but my feet.

Loving the points behind option. And the avatars.

Given that the Earth is more or less spherical, why are the wards not square? Since they are rectangular, we can get more wards for our miles going along latitude than up and down longitude.

They *are* square, at the equator. But they can't stay square, without overlapping (or missing bits).

For the low-down on the challenges of representing the earth, being a three dimensional oblate spheroid (a slightly squashed ball), onto a two dimensional map, you can have a read here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Map_projection. Although in his second sentence above PtB has summarised it very well. Personally I'd spare myself the pain and go for a run instead.
