JK - Zombie by Fela Kuti or Music for Airports by Brian Eno

Thanks. Let's see if I can't totally ruin my Spotify's algorithms :)

Big nope on both of these, by the way. I'm going back to some crap that I know rather than crap I don't know ;)

Guilty as charged.

My Spotify mix has cleansed my musical palate with Cut Copy, Róisín Murphy, and Architecture in Helsinki, so I'm happy (even if work is dreadful)

Interesting on the 13 -30 thing. 13 was the age I started to get into music properly, but I used to go back down the influences of the artists I liked so a lot of what I listened to would have looked back as much as forward.

Most of my favourite albums I have posted on this thread were released before I was 13 and quite a few before I was born. Of the ones released after I was 13 I didn’t really listen to them until I was over 30 :-p

One of my favourite albums this century is A Grand Don’t Come For Free by the Streets

Prince - Purple Rain & Sign 'O' the Times

I feel like classic albums have to have critical and commercial success (as well as being era defining), but I suppose what might be considered a classic will change with time.

Was trying to think of classic albums since 2000,

I was going to suggest Original Pirate Material as a more recent classic, Fields

JamieKai chameleon, what about Kraftwerk? Any from Trans Europe Express, The Man Machine or Computer World. In the "Classic Album" sense TEE would generally be regarded as the one.

Although they all had such an influence you could argue that they were The Eighties, before the eighties were.

Yeah OPM is perhaps the classic one as it was fresh. A grand don’t come for free is more of a concept.

Classic albums since 2000 for me...

The Strokes - Is this it
Arctic Monkeys - wpsiatiwim
LCD Soundystem - Sound of Silver

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Original Pirate Material I'm in agreement with too.

Not sure what defines classic myself either. There are a number of albums of this century that I like as much as these, if not more, which I haven't included as I realise that is because they are very much a personal thing rather than being seen as a classic more widely.

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
A spin-off from the 50 New Albums in 2023.

Some Fetchies have been mentioning or revisiting some of the classics, so not necessarily a new album to them and definitely not a *new* new album. As such, I thought we could have a new thread to discuss such classics.

Already mentioned:
Van Morrison Astral weeks
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds

I've been wondering, depending on whether there's any demand for it, that participants might each suggest a classic album (per month?) so that t...
