I finally pulled off a few scales and arpeggios this afternoon - G Major, F, Major, and C Major. I think it's time I get a tutor. One of my smaller goals for 2025 is to reach at least a Grade 3 standard, and maybe even take the exam. There are some intonation problems with the lower register. They're most noticeable when I try to play the D1 (all finger holes covered), and it sounds as a D2, even though my thumb isn't on the octave key and there's been no apparent change in my embouchure. I'll ask at band rehearsal in a couple of weeks about diagnosing the issue.

Garfield Dec 2024 2:01pm, 29 Dec 2024 18,298 posts	0 Garfield Probably the latter...it's hard to hit low notes on saxes of any variety when you start out. Start by working your way down from the higher notes on the same register - A, G, F, E then D.

I've noticed a gradual improvement, to the point where I executed an ascending and descending chromatic scale starting on D1 this afternoon. I can also add D minor, B-flat major, A minor, D major, and E minor to my list of scales/arpeggi. I should get some clarinet practice in before work.
