Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Trumpet shouldn't mangle the flute embouchure too much. I've played both in the past and am now starting to get back trumpet and flute.

@Alice the Camel I was playing both initially as I was still in the orchestra with oboe, and there didn't seem to be any problem. I'm very much an amateur though, so I guess it would depend on what level you were playing at.

I bought a saxophone (alto, Jupiter) on Vinted, a few hours after my concert on Saturday. (I should have it in my hands by Thursday.) The band recently asked me to take up the sax so I can also take part in the big band, and as I'm stepping back from rehearsals for a while now seemed like a good time to get up a few grades.

How exciting! Best wishes for enjoying the saxophone. Plus how fabulous to have that new shiny instrument feeling.

Alice the Camel wrote:I was gifted O’Neill’s Music of Ireland (book of jigs - the Bible of Irish music in my opinion) for my recent birthday. I’ve been playing them on flute/picc but have just bought a tin whistle to give them a go on.
This was a while ago but I just wondered how you got on with it? (I'm interested because I play a few different sizes and makes of whistle myself.)

@NordRunner

The book is great, 100s of assorted tunes. You’ve reminded me about the tin whistle. I have to confess I’ve not given it much attention since I bought it, I really should make an effort to learn the fingering (slightly different to picc).

Yeah, I had the reverse problem coming from clarinet re fingering. I managed to find a copy of the book on the net locally so I'll give it a try. I get most of my music online for ipad but it’s nice to have some printed sometimes.

Someone might be interested to know that there's an Irish flute with the same fingering but also that a standard Boehm system silver classical flute is used by some people. I have a wooden Irish flute waiting to be learnt, but I can't get on with it yet as I use buckets of air with my bad embouchure - way more than the equivalent low D whistle.
