My dad remembers his dad walking home with a goose waddling behind led by a string tied round its neck. It was installed in the outside loo until it was dispatched (by my Nan - Grandad was too soft!).

My favourite cooking day of the year today. Stock was on for 8:30, sprouts with pancetta and shallots done, sausage meat with leeks and cider done, carrots in butter and star anise bubbling away with pigs in blankets to prep later with junior assistance. Roasties made at the weekend in the freezer, plus various other bits. I'll over cater as usual but that's Christmas for me.

Sounds good larkim. I am never sure about doing things early other than the soup and pudding which I will do this afternoon. Everything else done tomorrow.
Hungry already having read your menu

I may pick up some sprouts along with the eggs...I like them well buttered and hubby will eat them if they are glazed with maple syrup or honey!!

I love how sprouts are so readily available at this time of year. I happily eat them just steamed
