Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We're very lucky that school is setting work every day. It's not compulsory. Slightly annoying that it takes so long to do that I rarely get to insert cool side projects and good videos!

Yes, yes please, thanks! Mr W came home so I gave him the next lesson to do 😂

It had taken 90 mins to do an interactive quiz and write labels on a map, sigh.

Remember - it is not compulsory.

This week my son has done the maths work set for the week. He has done Mon - Thursday's English work but we ran out of time for Fridays so that won't get done.

He has not touched the French or the "miscellaneous" and for topic work he has watched a documentary, baked some muffins and spent 2 hours on a whatsapp call with his mate where they discussed what work they could do for topic work - at least 5 minutes of that call they discussed work anyway!!!!

Lizzie: if it’s that painful to do schoolwork with him then find another way. There’s something called a flipped classroom where the students teach the teacher, that could be perfect for a kid who doesn’t really want to do an activity. I bet he has interests and passions which can be harnessed to learn all sorts of things.
Yesterday I mentioned to ds2 the idea that school might go back before September. He looked quite horrified! He said ‘a bunch of my friends say they are missing school but I’m not. I’m MUCH more productive at home’ I laughed my head off, asked him what he’s being productive on and he said something about producing a Minecraft texture pack (I have no idea what that is) and then he pointed out that stuff he’s doing now is probably more relevant to his future than anything he learns at school. Having seen some of his homework he definitely has a point!

Mostly it's OK, he (reasonably enough) drags his heels if he's not that interested - I didn't predict it so hadn't got an equivalent task (eg UK jigsaw), and *I* was interested! I prioritise the essential stuff, and stick in fun stuff (art, basketball) for a break. It's also lack of confidence - sitting staring at the maths rather than having a go and asking for help. And he can't keep his fiddle fingers away from the laptop!

In fact he is a mini-me...

Olaf Falafel is doing a brilliant Art Workshop on YouTube. He's very entertaining.

I think the daily lessons on the BBC Bitesize website are really good. Just enough to keep children on task, but not too much nor too overwhelming (and the fact that they're set daily might just be enough to set a good work routine!). The worksheets I've looked at are very similar to the type of thing that the children would be doing at the school where I work, so hopefully the familiarity of layout will also help. :-)
