Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

As a marathoner it was quite pleasant to see the 15k marker and know there was 'only' another 11k to go. I'd have welcomed km markers after that but don't think I saw another.

Had to do a lot more weaving after the metric marathoners joined in and the road was fairly narrow. I guess paces would be fairly similar at some stages but not all. With that in mind I can see why the organisers wouldn't want a large volume of people around a metric marathon pacer.

I think at the time I merged with the metrics, my pace was also quicker than theirs and so I literally spent those last 8? miles overtaking people which was a massive boost. I never felt that anybody got in my way but the course was very noticeably busier once we had merged, from about 10m until then, in the marathon it had noticeably thinned out.

Given the difference in the colour branding of the marathon v the metric I do wonder if they could have provided metric km markers on different colour boards so they were obvious which event they related to.

I quite like marathons with metric markings, they seem to get ticked off quicker :-)

Same here Clare - I liked the fact we merged because they were all going a bit slower and I was overtaking a lot which helped my head. The Metric field was sufficiently thinned by then so I didn't feel hindered. I actually went past a friend from another club doing it which was a boost.

I wrote a blog if anyone is interested http://www.fetcheveryone.com/blog-view.php?id=6595&m=0&y=0#blog341752

Clare:

Maybe my view was clouded by the runner behind me continuously screaming at people to keep to the left or maybe the people in front were startled by his screams and froze. It was okay after a while because there was plenty room on the metric side of the road. I can still see why organisers wouldn't want a massive metric marathon pace bus blocking the road in front of marathon runners though.

I hope the merging didn't cause any marathoners problems - I found it quite inspiring to be alongside you all! I did my best to keep left. Mr AL was passed by the 3hr pacers which he said was quite alarming!! There were a sizeable group of runners chasing the two pacers and he said it sounded like a stampede :)

The merging was fine...I was also passing loads of people but mostly had enough space and when I didnt used the metric marathoners side....only issue was when a car came along one way and a police bike the other and it seemed the cr had somehow got on the closed road and nt sure how that got sorted

One thing I did notice was that despite the roads being closed to traffic, some cyclists got through and were riding in the same direction as we were running. They weren't with any runners or part of the race but they were weaving amongst us and I just felt that they could have caused a serious accident regardless of whether or not a runner was wearing headphones - those racing bikes don't make much noise

Clare - stunning time on that course.

I did the metric last year - I liked it when we merged although did have to watch myself that I didn't gt caught up with the marathoners who were going faster than me (I was aiming for a 1:59 kilomathon). I got a few cheers that suggested some of the crown though I was gunning for a sub 3 marathon - if only! :) I did run the last half mile with the sub 3 pacer as I was starting to fade and I held onto him so get my sub 2! Last year I seem to recall he only had 2 or 3 people left with him in the final 0.5m.
