Er well everything is quite trashed here. The sofas bear the brunt but I have one very illbehaved cat and a house full of scratching pads

Soft furnishings are scratched to buggery here! Even though Hester is an outdoor cat her claws are sharp and I always have scratch marks! :-)

'Nny was never much into scratching things, luckily, but when his claws were getting too long they'd get stuck on my clothes and he'd be really noisy walking around the house, so I'd trim them myself.

He never particularly enjoyed the experience, but he tolerated it well enough so it wasn't terribly difficult.

I am lucky: Lasya only scratches the top of my Tibetan antique horse rug/saddle and the horrid stair and upstairs carpet. You cannot actually see any damage to the carpet but you do the rug. However: I am happy that is it! She is a horizontal scratcher, which helps.
No scratches on the furniture, other than my chaise longue but that wasn't her fault: she jumped onto it and slid off and I hadn't cut her nails for a while.
I had a session with our vet, when her nails first needed clipping. He showed me how to and sold me good quality clippers. Lasya only starts wriggling when I get to the last claw but I did use to work at the vests as a teenager and know how to grip her.

Then she sits under the table looking pissed off but as soon as I get up, she is stood by the cupboard with the treats. She always gets a stick as a reward.
I could swear she drums up a fuss on the last claw as she thinks she otherwise won't get a stick!

Our washing basket is well on its way out. Our spoiled buggers have 3 scratch posts and a scratch mat.

I was sent home from work poorly today (fine just off colour after a tricky weekend) and Boba came and sat on me for the first time ever.

Hope you're feeling better soon, lf.

When I lived with Willow (a peach-fuzzed mog who did the action of meowing, even if no sound emerged), one day after I had returned home somewhat battered and bloodied, she sat with me. Wouldn't leave my side. Purred constantly. Best nurse maid ever.

I returned the favour some time later after she had a run in with a local dog and hid away in a box - without the purring, mind. But I did my best :)

Cats have a built in make your loved ones feel better' function. That's just science.

We've had a mostly positive evening of continuing acclimatisation here, I'm increasingly confident it'll all be fine, it might just take a while.
