The lad who is generally first if he's there at our local Parkrun ran a 1.04 400 metres last night in his 4-46 track mile. I've a better idea now what's involved. I very much doubt I could move that fast over any distance; even now chased by cows, or as a boy, by my mum with her rolling pin

I wish I had access to a track, this is the kind of thing i'd love to try. In my youth I was a 100m sprint specialist, and I still ratin some of that fast twitch stuff. I like to think I could manage this for 400m, but I don't know about any further. |

Yes and for more than 400m! Would be nice to be able to do it for 1500m.

My best ever is 1:46 for 400m, in the last year it's 2:42.

SPR, your 800m SB is the same as mine! I'm struggling to get back into shape again. In 2019, I was part of a group of volunteers led by James Thie (ex-Welsh mile record holder) who were testing out some potential formations for Kipchoge's INEOS 1:59 challenge. We had to run about 12 x 400m reps at sub-2-hour marathon pace (67 per 400m) while holding formation and swapping in and out runners. We did it on a car/bike racing track in Wales (I think it was the Llandow Circuit) and they gave us heart rate monitors, some of us wore earpieces to hear instructions, and I was given a GoPro to record my viewpoint, and at the end of each rep we had to complete a survey. We were the first people in the world to try the Y shape they eventually used on the day. We had to sign a non-disclosure agreement that we wouldn't talk to anyone about it until after the sub 2 attempt. They also flew drones over us, recording as we ran. The only thing they didn't have was the car with lasers. But running in formation and having to keep equilibrium within the formation, was a challenge in itself, but doing it at that pace was tough. I can't imagine running like that for any substantial distance (i.e. a mile or more). |

How weird, while googling I randomly came across this article about my part in it - I'm pretty sure I have never seen this before! easyrunner.co.uk |

The quotes they used in the article were actually from a Facebook post I made.

Only did one 400m that was at the fetch mile around 2009. That hurt To be fair may have gone quicker if I hadn't done the mile shortly before which Trin (ex fetchie) paced me too that hurt too |
