So, 4 weeks today. How's everyone's training going? We've got our flights, ESTA (visa waivers), hotel in Boston for Sat, Sun and Mon nights, car rental from Tue onwards.
And some training has been done. Sort of!
Anyone doing: * pasta party on Sun night? * the recce bus (?) tour on Sat or Sun?
Hope all training going well. G

Hi Happy, glad all is well, sort of!
As always there’s a sense of “ground rush” with an event that’s been looked forward to for so long.
Yep, all the admin is done, just waiting for those last B.A.A. emails wrt bib number collection etc.
My version of a training plan is pretty much complete although the next two weeks will be mucked around by work. To use that awful phrase, most of the ‘hay is in the barn’.
We’ll probably dip the pasta party but I’d like to do the course recce. Have you got details for the recce? Maybe I’ve missed the email?

I'm not planning on doing the recce - it will be what it will be! And I'm not going for a time, so really not bothered. Prob won't do pasta party either. I'm there with my missus and I think she'd rather eat somewhere nicer than a marathon race venue!
12 March I got email for pre and post race party tickets.
Email of 6 Mar said: digital number pick up pass email will come late March.
Hmm, just checked my email and I can't see the pre race recce application. Was it maybe in the post. I received something in the post recently. Haven't got it to hand though.
Training is over rated! I'll get round in any case! G

Did you watch the Course Preview video in the email from 14 Feb though Steve. That was quite instructive about how hill it is! G

Not planning on doing either the bus or pasta party.
Are people generally going for a PB/attempt at a decent time or more for the experience? Judging by what everyone has been saying on the various Boston boards about the course, it doesn't feel like a PB course and I am not planning on going for one. Probably struggling a little to work out how much slower I should run it compared to the likes of London or Berlin, which are pretty flat, but without taking it too easy. And that's ignoring the weather factor.

Hi Jomo - the latter for me. I have a club mate who is doing sub 3 at all 6 majors. He did Boston last year (terrible weather) and was just over the 3. So he's going back this year to rectify that! And he's only just sub 3, so while it might not be a PB, it will have to be a bloomin good effort and what I understand to be a tough course.
10 mins slower, at least, I'd think? Having said that, everyone said Loch Ness marathon wasn't a PB course (like Boston it's net downhill and has a couple of decent uphills in the last 4 or 5 miles) and I PB'd that! G

Thanks. I have been around the low 2:50s mark in recent marathons (London and Berlin last year) and have a fairly recent 2:49 PB but on a flat, fast course. Feels like I might be better just aiming for making it around just under 3 hrs than going for glory and blowing myself up big time.

No pb attempt for me on the basis of the course but I’ve trained to be sub 3.15 on a flat course so I’ll be disappointed if I’m not sub 3.30.
Hope we get a break with the weather for our supporters/family but my mate’s run last year is one of his proudest.

Looks like the bib numbers are now out. I am in wave 1, corral 2 - as expected.
